Selecting
Diagnoses
There are basically two places where you
will be to select diagnoses, on the patient's record
and on an invoice if the diagnosis you want is
not associated with the patient yet.
Selecting a Patient's Diagnosis
When you are selecting a new diagnosis for a patient you can click in
the Code field a get a pop-up list. But if the diagnosis you
want to not there you can easily found one and assign it to your
patient. To do this click the Select Dx button located at the
right corner of this section.
The screen below
appears from the diagnosis module and it lists in the lower section all
the current diagnoses for this patient. Click the Find button
and serach for the diagnosis you want. Then click the Change
button in the patient's diagnosis list and it is added for you! When
you are done click Return.
Selecting
an Invoice's Diagnosis
To add new diagnoses directly to an invoice requires several steps.
First, on the Charge Entry Screen you would click the See
More Diags button in the blue
diagnosis section.
Next,
the dialog below allows you to fill in up to eight diagnoses when using certain electronic
claims formats. Both the CMS-1500 and HIPAA formats support four
diagnoses. At this point, to select from the Diagnosis Module itself you would click Select Other.
You are then given the special
diagnosis selection screen below. It references the invoice number and
shows you the current diagnoses. You would then imploy the standard
search techniques to find the diagnosis you want. To add the found
diagnosis to the invoice just click one of the Update Dx buttons. Keep in mind that only 4 diagnoses are sent with a claim! When you are
done click Return.
